On the women end of things, my good friend, best-selling author & global speaker, Patricia Aburdene will be speaking at a conference here in San Diego March 13th & 14th, Women Power & Purpose http://womenpowerandpurpose.com/early/ along with 11 other power women including Janet Attwood & Marci Dyer. I am going and so are my very close and new women friend entrepreneurs; we are going to learn, connect and spread the words of these wise and conscious women. In fact, that is what Patricia talks about in her latest book; how the conscious consumer has made demands for a conscious system including Capitalism. Increasingly we demand quality, spirit and environmentally friendly attributes to our products, stocks and even self-actualization services & books. Anyway, Ruth and all of the other women entrepreneurs out there listening; introduce, if you haven't, your spirit and femininity into your business; I'm sure most of you have. I just get excited talking about all of this but, I must move on and spread the word. I look forward to us all connecting and making that change, not just in Haiti but everywhere; Capitalism has amassed a system of debt for which never can be repaid. One of my very good friends from high school is Haitian (it was heartbreaking to watch her attempts to locate family through Facebook in the immediate aftermath of the earthquake) and during law school I represented a young Haitian man in his political asylum claim during the early 90s when boatloads of Haitian were being turned back by the U.S. government or being held in Guantanamo so the situation in Haiti is close to my heart. I would also encourage folks to continue to give in the coming weeks and months when the crisis leaves the spotlight. Doctors Without Borders (http://doctorswithoutborders.org/), Partners in Health (http://standwithhaiti.org/haiti), and UNICEF (http://www.unicef.org/) are also fantastic organizations on the ground in Haiti. While my heart is heavy for those who suffer in Haiti, my stronger hope is strong that women "leaders" of all types will be a beacon of light in this disaster. Perhaps this is an opportunity disguised or even buried behind walls of current challenges - where we as women can step up, speak up and allow this crisis to help us all make a positive difference in the world. Giving time, attention, money and support to those who are on the front lines is something we all can collectively do to "reframe" this moment to "engage for more meaning, connection and positive energy".
